& When I Follow My Heart In 2020, I’ll Wake Up In Bali

Two years ago when I first started navigating the monumental ups and downs through self-discovery, appreciation, and love, I promised myself that every year I would solo travel to a new destination to find a new piece of my heart; a new piece of who I’m supposed to become. So, here we are just a couple months shy of 27 years young, and I’m so excited to share that the past year of growing, healing, and resilience has led me to Bali, Indonesia!

Any time I plan a solo trip and set my sights on that year’s destination, I choose a theme or a word to stick by throughout the year – a theme or word that resembles my new year’s Northern Star. This year, that word is ENOUGH. Enough, because this past year has brought a painful but beautiful transformation in healing, growing, and learning that I am enough. Learning to stop convincing or longing for people to believe I am enough. Learning to stand up and say that I’ve had enough. Learning to believe that through any barrel of doubt, I am worthy, I am deserving, I am enough.

So, why Bali? Easy – I love my independence, being present and living whole-heartedly in the moment, finding peace, appreciation for life, and love for myself and the world around me. And that is Bali. So, what will that look like?

Bali Itinerary: April 1 – April 12

My trip will consist of 8 days exploring majestic temples, iconic waterfalls, visiting active volcanos, wander through rice terraces, discovering local islands, and surfing/snorkeling with sea turtles. Getting to know and understand the infectious spirit of the Balinese people and their way of life as well as visiting a local primary school to spend the morning in class with the Balinese students. Seeing, meeting, and playing with wild monkeys, shopping the local markets, indulge in traditional Balinese street food, and of course, dancing the night away at the parties that Bali is most famous for.

While I will be traveling solo, I will be with a group organized by Wanderlands Bali via TourRadar designed specifically for young adults – the perfect way to meet new people, make friends and share the experience with others from all over the world. Not to mention that all accommodation is provided for in luxurious hotels throughout the stay as well as 7 meals.

Day 1 & 2 – Canggu

“Selamat Datang di Bali!” – AKA, “Welcome to Bali” in Indonesian. 😉 After a full 24-hour flight from Chicago to Qatar to Bali Wanderlands Bali has organized a pickup shuttle from Denpasar airport where our group leader will meet and take us to our hotel in Canggu. I’ll be staying at Canggu Villages during the first couple of days exploring Canggu before the welcome dinner and drinks with the other travelers.

Day two will consist of beachin’, and beachin’ hard as I head first to Uluwatu Temple. Then we drive up the coastline to Kuta Beach and get the chance to learn to surf. After we hit the waves, we drive back to Canggu to relax at the beach, then enjoy the nightlife in Canggu.

Day 3-5: Ubud

Days 3-5 will be getting fully accustomed with the traditional culture of Bali. We’ll visit the magnificent Tanah Lot temple, which is set on a rock formation in the sea, before heading to the cultural heart of Bali, Ubud, most commonly known from the movie ‘Eat Pray Love’. We’ll stop off to visit the “little locals” at the Monkey Forest Sanctuary and explore the local markets. We’ll then have lunch overlooking an active volcano and spend the rest of the afternoon wandering around the famous rice terraces of Ubud. Our last day in Ubud we’ll head to a local primary school for the opportunity to spend time in class with the local Balinese students and end our time in Ubud at one of the most well-known waterfall pools!

Day 6-8: Gili Trawangan

The final three days of the trip we’ll be exploring the Balinese Islands! Making our way to the picturesque island of Gili Trawangan and settle into our beachside accommodation, before getting on the only mode of transport available on the island (push bike!) to cycle around, see the sights and beachside Bali sunset. Then in the evening, it’s time to party, island style! On our second day in Gili T, we’ll spend the day island hopping – heading to some of the best snorkeling spots in Indonesia. These three days will be all about the water as we get the chance to swim with the sea turtles. On our final evening, we’ll enjoy a farewell dinner and party in style to celebrate the past 8 days in Bali, Indonesia! 🙂

I’ll be sharing video stories and endless photo stories of the trip, so feel free to join me – @alexaraeloebel. XOXO. ♥
